Bhakti

/BAHK-tee/

Bhakti — In Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavism, pure, loving devotion directed exclusively toward Kṛṣṇa, free from any ulterior desire — including liberation — and unmixed with karma or jñāna. Defined authoritatively by Rūpa Gosvāmī as the continuous, favorable cultivation of a relationship with Kṛṣṇa (ānukūlyena kṛṣṇānuśīlana). Understood not merely as a human practice but as the descent of Kṛṣṇa's own bliss-potency (hlādinī-śakti) into the heart of the devotee, bhakti is at once the supreme path and the supreme goal, culminating in an eternal, rasa-bearing relationship with the Divine.
